Visa & Entry Requirements

240-Hour Visa-Free Transit
Citizens of 57 countries can enjoy 240-hour visa-free transit at 65 designated ports across 24 provinces in China. Eligible countries include the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Japan, South Korea, and most EU nations. You must hold a confirmed onward ticket to a third country/region within 240 hours. This policy covers major cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Xi'an, Guilin, Hangzhou, and more.
Tourist Visa (L Visa)
For stays longer than 240 hours or visits to non-visa-free areas, apply for an L Visa at your nearest Chinese embassy or consulate. Required documents: valid passport (6+ months validity), completed application form, passport photo, round-trip flight itinerary, and hotel reservations. Processing time is typically 4-5 business days.
Hainan Visa-Free Policy
Citizens of 59 countries can visit Hainan Province visa-free for up to 30 days when arriving directly at Haikou or Sanya international airports. This policy does not apply if traveling to other parts of China.
Cruise Visa-Free
Foreign tourist groups arriving by cruise can enjoy visa-free entry for up to 15 days at designated ports including Shanghai, Tianjin, Guangzhou, and Xiamen.
Important Notes
Always carry your passport when traveling within China. Hotel registration with local police is required (hotels handle this automatically). The visa-free transit policy may change; check with your airline or Chinese embassy before departure.

Download Alipay or WeChat Pay before your trip. Cash is rarely used in major cities, and having mobile payment set up will make your experience much smoother.
